Developing and using nomenclature standards

Introduction

Adopting standards within a research community or other community of practice greatly enhances the value of data storage, exchange and re-use. Within the relational CropStore schema, many of the unique identifiers for different entities are structured to facilitate human-readability and systematic data curation. A comprehensive set of suggested nomenclatuire standards have been developed, particularly in collaboraiton with the Brassica crop research community. These are widely applicable to a wide range of taxa, with the syntax formalised in simplified Backus-Naur Form (BNF) . For a full list please download the Excel workbook.
